Seaweed is the New Kale!!

The new miracle food everyone is talking about these days: Seaweed. Sorry Kale you have to take a backseat to this ancient, magical plant.

First of all, we can all acknowledge it’s not the most attractive plant with its slimy texture and strong sea flavor. However its health benefits greatly outweighs its strange taste. It is now established as one of the world’s most nutritious crop.

Take kale, for example, and how it became the most-hyped about food, a couple years ago. Kale is so bitter and tough; we never thought it would become such a widespread phenomenon. We’re in a love affair with kale now thanks to many celebrities and chefs, which made it a common dish everywhere. Thank you Gwyneth Paltrow and Chef Dan Barber. The same will happen to seaweed.

Seaweed is a member of the algae family and typically we have three varieties we know in the west: brown, red and green. Most of the research is made on the brown varieties: Kelp and Wakame, red seaweed is mostly known as Nori which is known as a sushi wrap and green algae known as “sea lettuce”. You can buy seaweed as dry or fresh from the natural food stores.

Seaweed is a great source of minerals, packed with antioxidants, fiber, iron, Iodine and good fats. Natural Iodine is the most vital component as it is missing from the majority of foods in our diet.

The health benefits of seaweed are impressive, and below are some of the benefits:
