5 Superfoods to Include in Your Diet

The term “Superfood” is becoming a hype, but we are also confused about what is a superfood, which one is best, and if it’s worth the dollar and the media attention. Dr. Hyman gives us a list of the best 5 superfoods which we should include. We all know that food is medicine but superfood are foods which have are defined as nutrient-rich foods which have a targeted benefit to our well-being.

 

 

1.) SEEDS:

There are also many seeds on the market, the 3 main ones which have an outstanding nutrient value are:

  1. Chia Seeds: are excellent source nutrient and have medical properties. They are rich in anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, protein and fiber. Chia seeds are great for glowing skin, mental clarity and support our digestive system.

  2. Hemp Seeds: are great source of balanced omega-3 and omega-6, gamma linolenic acid (GLA), and a perfect source of essential amino acids. They are also a rich source of phyto-nutrients ) Vitamin B, magnesium iron and zinc.

  3. Flaxseeds: great source of Omega-3 fats, fiber, minerals and vitamins. They are powerful in anti-cancer nutrients and in hormone balancing phytonutrient .

 

2.) MCT OIL:

These are medium-chain triglycerides a form of saturated fatty acids that have many benefits from improving mental abilities to assist in weight management. MCT are mainly derived from coconut oil and palm oil ( good source of palm oil as we have also very processed palm oil which is stripped from all benefits).

 

3.) GLUCOMANNAN:

It is a water-soluble dietary finer extracted from the root of the Konjac Plant. It surpasses appetite, improve digestion, support healthy cholesterol and blood glucose and promotes weight-loss.You can find glucomannan as a supplement called PGX.

 

4.) MUSHROOM:

In China mushrooms are treated as medicine, rather than a vegetable. The best are reishi, shiitake and cordyceps which contain powerful healing properties. They are anti-viral and anti-inflammatory.

 

5) PLANT-BASED FOODS

That means all the colorful vegetables which are rich in phytonutrients and vitamins and minerals. Try to have at least 5 colors of vegetables everyday, as each color of vegetables represents a different healing properties.
